Are you looking for ways to help and give your disease a purpose? No matter where you are in your chronic migraine journey there are opportunities for you to help us achieve our community's mission! Advocates Removing Migraine Stigma (ARMS) is just what you’re looking for!
You can help yourself and others by speaking up for those who can’t. Advocacy is an important role when living with any chronic illness and migraine disease is no different. When you’re not feeling well you can still share the message from your bed, couch or recliner!
We also encourage you to bring our educational materials to any of your health care providers. Another avenue to represent CMA is to attend events such as Miles for Migraine, or community health fairs.
Advocating doesn’t have to be complicated, overwhelming, or even time consuming.
You can do this by sharing CMA’s resources in this kit with your doctors’ offices, other healthcare providers, community centers, libraries, health/craft fairs, Farmer’s Markets and more. Keep a few pamphlets/pens in your bag or purse to have handy whenever you run into someone with migraine – at the grocery store, at the bank, the gym, family events, and more.
Examples of advocacy include:
Living with chronic migraine leaves us feeling unwell and not wanting to do much. Becoming an ARMS member gives purpose to your pain. Advocating from your bed/recliner/couch can be as simple as copying and pasting CMA’s social media posts and posting them to your own social media channels.
Join ARMS and get involved in your local community with handouts and awareness goodies to leave at your doctor's office, community centers, events, etc. You can also become a social media warrior and becoming involved as an admin in our private support groups and our main facebook page. Use your talents to help us spread awareness for chronic migraine!
Are you a member of ARMS? Join our private Facebook ARMS group. This group will keep you up to date with ARMS initiatives and communicate with your fellow ARMS members.
Attend local health fairs, Farmer’s Market and/or Miles for Migraine events by hosting a booth. All you have to do is show up with the materials and share!
Support Migraine and Headache Awareness Month (MHAM) in June and get your headache specialists and other healthcare providers involved.
Consider joining Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy and attend the annual Headache on the Hill event.
Discuss a matching donation program with your employer, reach out to us if you need help coming up with ideas to make this happen!
